Men's Men’s briefs

Men's briefs at Basics are the classic innerwear cut for everyday support — close-fit, full-coverage, available in plain solids and print options. Construction uses 100% combed cotton at 180-200 GSM (heavier than t-shirt cotton, lighter than denim), which gives the brief enough body to hold shape through 100+ wash cycles without becoming threadbare. The waistband is jacquard-woven elastic — branded, durable, and holds shape rather than the cheap glued-tape waistbands that peel within six months. Briefs sit higher on the waist than boxer briefs and provide closer support — the right cut for athletic wear, under formal trousers, or any context where boxer-brief leg-hems would interfere. The range covers solid colours (white, black, navy, grey, beige) plus print options for variety. Indian sizing runs true: order your usual waist measurement (28-42 inches). The cut accommodates most builds without bunching — both lean and athletic frames fit cleanly. Care is simple: cold machine wash inside-out with similar colours, hang-dry in shade (direct sun fades any dye), no bleach, no fabric softener (fabric softener coats the cotton fibres and reduces breathability over time). For daily Indian-climate wear, 8-12 pairs in rotation is the right wardrobe count — enough that each pair only sees 1 wash per week and lasts 18-24 months. Free shipping above ₹799, free 30-day returns on unworn product, Cash on Delivery available everywhere in India.

Frequently Asked Questions about Men’s briefs

Brief vs trunk vs boxer brief — which should I pick?
Briefs sit highest on the waist with the most support and least leg coverage — best for athletic wear and under slim trousers. Trunks sit lower on the hip with mid-thigh leg length — the most versatile cut for daily wear. Boxer briefs sit at the hip with longer leg coverage to mid-thigh — best for preventing chafing under jeans and chinos. Most men own a mix: briefs for athletic days, trunks for office, boxer briefs for weekend casual. If you're buying your first multi-pack, start with trunks — they suit the widest range of contexts.
How many briefs should I own in rotation?
8-12 pairs is the right wardrobe count for daily Indian-climate wear. Owning fewer (4-6 pairs) means each pair sees 2-3 washes per week and wears out faster — typically 8-12 months. With 10+ pairs in rotation, each pair sees 1 wash per week and lasts 18-24 months. Cost-per-wear works out lower with more pairs and longer rotation. The catch: you need wardrobe space for 10+ pairs, which means a dedicated drawer. The upside: you're not doing emergency laundry runs because you're down to your last pair.
Why 100% cotton and not poly-cotton blends?
Cotton breathes better in Indian humidity. Poly-cotton blends trap heat and moisture against the skin, which causes more sweat and the buildup of bacteria that produces odour over time. Pure cotton wicks moisture away and dries on the line. For 9 months of the Indian climate year, cotton briefs stay measurably cooler and odour-free through a full day of wear, where blend briefs need a mid-day change. Cotton also softens with each wash (the opposite of synthetics, which stiffen) so the comfort actually improves over the first 5-10 wears.
Will the elastic stretch out within a year?
Our jacquard-woven elastic is rated for 100+ wash cycles. With proper care (cold wash, no fabric softener, no tumble dry on high heat), the elastic retains 85-90% of its original tension at 12 months and 70-75% at 24 months. The signs of failed elastic: the waistband sags below your natural waist when standing, or rolls when you sit. If this happens inside 12 months of normal wear, it's a manufacturing fault — contact us for a free replacement. Most quality cotton briefs last 18-24 months of daily-rotation wear before needing replacement.
Care instructions for cotton briefs?
Cold machine wash (30°C max) inside-out with similar colours. Use a mild detergent — NO bleach (degrades cotton fibres), NO fabric softener (coats cotton and reduces breathability). Hang-dry in shade or tumble-dry low. Direct-sun drying fades dyes faster than shade-drying — but doesn't damage white briefs. Don't iron (briefs don't need it and ironing damages the elastic). Store folded flat, not stacked tightly — tight stacks compress the elastic over months.
What's the return policy on innerwear?
30-day returns on UNWORN innerwear with original tags attached and unopened packaging. Hygiene rules mean we cannot accept returns of opened, washed, or worn innerwear — standard practice across reputable Indian retailers. For sizing-error returns: order one pair to test sizing before bulk-buying a 6-pack or 12-pack. For manufacturing defects (loose stitching, broken elastic, faded dye) within 90 days, we replace free regardless of wear status — just contact support with photos and your order number.
