Men's Track pants

Trackpants used to mean gym wear. Now they cover the spectrum from the gym to airports to working-from-home to evenings out — which is why fit matters more than it used to. Basics trackpants come in two fits. Jogger Fit is tapered toward the ankle with an elasticated ankle cuff — modern, slightly fitted, the cut that works for both casual and athleisure. Slim Fit is narrow through the leg with an open straight hem — sleeker, less obviously "gym," and the better choice when you want trackpants that don't read as workout-specific. Fabric is 100% cotton or cotton-polyester blends — soft against the skin, with enough structure to hold shape over a full day's wear, and enough stretch that they move without restricting. Waistbands are elasticated with a drawstring; side pockets are deep enough to actually hold a phone; back welt pockets where appropriate. The colour range spans 9 families — black, charcoal grey, navy, and olive as the everyday core, with brighter blues, reds, and browns for rotation. Stitching is reinforced at the inseam and crotch — the two highest-stress areas for any pant — and the elastic waistband uses a double-row construction so it holds tension through years of wear. Drawstring tips are aglet-finished (small plastic caps) so they don't fray. Inseam length suits most heights; cropped Jogger styles work for shorter frames without alteration. Both fits accept a belt if needed, though the elasticated waistband usually holds tension on its own through a full day. Hand-pockets are positioned slightly forward of the side seam for natural reach.

Frequently Asked Questions about Track pants

What's the difference between Jogger Fit and Slim Fit trackpants?
Jogger Fit is tapered through the leg and gathered at the ankle with an elasticated cuff. The fit is modern, slightly athleisure, and pairs well with low-profile sneakers or trainers. Slim Fit is narrow through the leg with an open straight hem (no ankle gather). It reads less athletic and pairs well with both sneakers and casual loafers. Pick Jogger for casual-to-athleisure wear; pick Slim if you want trackpants that work as a more general casual trouser.
Can I wear trackpants to the gym AND outside?
Yes — Basics trackpants are designed for both. The cotton-polyester blends in particular handle sweat better than pure cotton (which gets heavy when wet) while still being soft enough to wear all day. For high-intensity cardio, dedicated performance wear is better; for weightlifting, casual gym work, walking, yoga, and general training, these work well. They also work outside the gym in a way that performance-specific trackpants don't — they don't read as obvious activewear in non-gym settings.
How should trackpants fit at the waist and ankle?
Waist should sit at your natural waist (just above the hip bone), comfortable enough that the drawstring is a backup, not the primary hold. If the elastic alone won't stay up, size down. For Jogger fits, the ankle cuff should hug the ankle bone closely — snug, not constricting. For Slim fits, the hem should sit just above or at the ankle bone. Through the thigh, both fits should leave enough room to sit cross-legged without pulling tight.
Are cotton trackpants better than synthetic ones?
Cotton is softer, more breathable, and doesn't have the "swishy" plastic feel of cheap synthetics. It's the right choice for casual wear, travel, and most everyday use. Cotton-polyester blends sit in the middle — most of the cotton softness with better moisture management and shape retention. Pure synthetics (polyester, technical performance fabrics) wick sweat best and are designed specifically for athletic performance. For most uses outside dedicated cardio training, cotton or cotton blends are the better choice.
Can I wear trackpants on a flight?
Trackpants are one of the better flight-wear choices — the elastic waist accommodates the swelling that happens on long flights, the fabric stretches when you sit for hours, and they pack down small. Slim Fit trackpants in dark colours (charcoal, navy, black) look acceptable through airports, taxis, and arrivals without reading as obvious gym wear. Pair with a clean t-shirt or sweatshirt and clean sneakers; avoid faded or worn pairs for flights where you'll meet anyone on arrival.
Do trackpants shrink after washing?
Basics trackpants are pre-shrunk, so they hold their size through normal cold-water washing. The most common cause of trackpant shrinkage is heat — hot water washes or tumble-drying cause cotton to contract permanently, especially the first time. Always wash cold and air-dry. If your trackpants do shrink slightly after the first wash, wear them once or twice — cotton stretches back somewhat with body movement. Persistent shrinkage usually means a heat source somewhere in the wash-dry cycle.
