Men's Men’s belts
Men's belts at Basics are the wardrobe essentials that finish a look — full-grain leather and PU options in black, brown, and tan, with both classic pin-buckle and modern auto-lock styles. The leather options use Indian buffalo hide tanned in Kanpur (which produces the country's most durable leather), with edge-painted finishing and a soft suede backing that protects shirt fabric. Belt width covers both formal (32mm) and casual (38mm) — formal belts pair with trousers and dress shoes, casual belts pair with jeans and boots. The PU range is the practical-budget option: vegan-friendly, water-resistant, and visually indistinguishable from leather at conversational distance. Both ranges use buckle hardware that doesn't tarnish through Indian humidity — solid brass or stainless steel core under the plating, not the cheap zinc that pits within six months. Sizing covers waist 30-46 inches in 2-inch increments. The classic rule: belt size = trouser size + 2 inches (e.g. waist 32 → belt 34). The belt should reach the second hole comfortably on day one — that's the standard middle-hole fit. If you're between sizes, size up — a belt that's too tight stretches and warps; a belt that's too long can be punched with a leather tool. Care is minimal: wipe with a damp cloth, condition leather every 6 months with a neutral wax, never expose to direct sunlight for extended periods. Free shipping above ₹799, 30-day free returns.

Frequently Asked Questions about Men’s belts
What belt size should I buy if my waist is 34 inches?
Order a 36-inch belt. The standard rule is belt size = trouser waist + 2 inches, which puts the buckle prong through the middle hole (the third out of five) when worn at your natural waist. If you're between waist sizes (e.g. fluctuate between 33 and 35), order the larger belt — a belt that's too long can be shortened by punching an extra hole, but a too-short belt has no fix. The middle hole convention also gives you room to gain or lose half an inch without needing a new belt.
Leather or PU — which is better for Indian weather?
Both work, but for different reasons. Genuine leather lasts 5-7 years with proper care (cleaning, occasional conditioning), develops a worn-in patina that looks better with age, and ages gracefully. PU lasts 2-3 years, never needs conditioning, is water-resistant (rain doesn't matter), and is significantly cheaper. For office wear with leather shoes — choose leather, the materials match. For everyday rain-prone monsoon use — choose PU, the water resistance matters. For travel and gym use — PU again, since it doesn't absorb sweat. Most men own one of each.
How do I care for a leather belt?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth (not soaking) once a month to remove dust. Every 6 months, apply a thin layer of neutral leather conditioner or beeswax with a soft cloth, let it absorb overnight, then buff off the excess. NEVER use shoe polish (the wax buildup cracks the leather edge over time). Don't expose to direct sunlight for hours at a time — UV breaks down the leather's natural oils. Store rolled (not hung) when not in use — hanging stretches the leather at the buckle hole over months.
Will the buckle plating tarnish?
Not within the warranty period (12 months) under normal use. Our buckles use solid brass or stainless steel cores under chrome, nickel, or antique-brass plating — not the cheap zinc that pits and discolours within 6 months in humid climates. If you do see tarnish or plating failure within 12 months, contact us with photos for a free replacement. Long-term (3+ years), even quality plating may show micro-scratches from daily buckling — that's normal wear, not a defect.
What's the difference between formal and casual belts?
Width and finish. Formal belts are 32mm wide with smooth, polished leather and a slim metal buckle — they sit cleanly in the belt loops of dress trousers without bulking. Casual belts are 38mm wide with textured, matte leather and a larger buckle — they're proportioned for jeans and chinos, which have wider belt loops. Wearing a casual belt with dress trousers looks proportionally wrong (the belt overwhelms the trouser loops); wearing a formal belt with jeans looks underweight (the belt disappears in the wider loops). Most men own one of each.
Return and exchange policy on belts?
30-day returns from delivery, free of charge, no questions asked. Belt must be unworn (no buckle marks from a punched extra hole, no scuffs from wear) with original packaging. We cover the reverse shipping. Size exchanges are free — let us know via your account page and we'll arrange pickup of the original belt and dispatch the new size. For belts that arrived damaged in transit (rare, but possible) — contact us with photos and we'll ship a replacement immediately, no return required for the damaged item.
