White Shirts for Men: Fabrics, Fits & Collars

A white shirt works everywhere: under a suit for a client meeting, under a sweater at the weekend, with a dhoti or mundu at a wedding, or on its own on a casual Friday. Because white shows every fibre and every fit issue, fabric and fit matter more than on any other colour.

100% Cotton is the foundation: it breathes in India's heat and softens with every wash. Crepe has a soft texture that hides small wrinkles, poplin is smooth for the office, and oxford is structured for formal wear. Lyocell Linen is the coolest, smoothest white: linen's airflow without the heavy creasing. Viscose-Polyester drapes beautifully, resists wrinkles and holds its shape through a long day. Our #1 bestselling white shirt is the Lucent White Viscose-Polyester Checks. Cavalry Twill, a cotton-polyester diagonal weave, is the structured, wrinkle-resistant choice for business and formal wear.

Slim fit (tapered at the waist, fitted through the shoulders) makes up 85% of our white shirt sales, and works for office, formal and weekend. Relaxed fit is straight through the body for more ease. On white it can look oversized, so pair it with a structured fabric like twill or oxford. White shows fit more than any colour, so measure your chest and shoulders carefully.

Mid Cut Away is the everyday collar: moderate spread, tie optional. Hamilton has a wide spread built for ties and formal occasions. Mandarin is a clean standing band with no points, worn without a tie. Stylized collars are design-led, for weekends and creative settings.

Office: cotton crepe for a formal look, or lyocell linen to stay cool in changing air-conditioning. Weddings and formal events: viscose-polyester. It drapes well, resists humidity and wrinkles, and works with a suit jacket or traditional formal wear. Weekend: lyocell linen, untucked over dark jeans or chinos. Under a sweater or jacket: slim fit, for clean lines. With a dhoti or mundu: viscose-polyester, which stays sharp through long events.

White Shirts for Men: Frequently Asked Questions

Which white shirt is best for Indian summers?
Linen blends breathe best. Our lyocell linen is the coolest, smoothest white, with linen's airflow and far less creasing. Pure cotton also breathes well and softens with every wash.
Is a pure cotton or a blended white shirt better?
It depends on what you need. Pure cotton, especially crepe, is the most versatile and professional: the one shirt that does everything. Blends suit specific needs: linen blends for heat, and viscose-polyester for a premium drape that resists wrinkles and needs little ironing.
Slim fit or relaxed fit for a white shirt?
Slim fit is tapered at the waist and fitted through the shoulders. It looks modern, works for most occasions, and is 85% of our white shirt sales. Relaxed fit is straight through the body for more ease. On white it can look oversized unless it's sized carefully, so pair it with a structured fabric.
Can I wear a white shirt to a wedding in India?
Yes. White suits most weddings, formal dinners and business events. Wear it with a suit jacket, or with a dhoti or mundu for an elegant traditional look. Viscose-polyester works best for long events because it stays crisp.
Why do white shirts turn yellow, and how do I stop it?
Yellowing usually comes from light and air over time, too much detergent, or hard water. Wash whites separately, use the right amount of detergent, fill the machine only three-quarters full, and store them away from light. Oxygen bleach is safe, but avoid chlorine bleach and fabric softener.
How often should I wash a white shirt?
After 2–3 wears, or sooner if it's stained. If it's clean and doesn't smell, wear it again, because washing too often makes white yellow faster. Spot-clean stains between washes when you can.
How long does a good white shirt last?
With proper care, 2–3 years of regular wear, or more than 50 washes. Premium cotton lasts longest, and correct washing, storage and quick stain treatment add years.
