Men's Trousers

Choosing a trouser comes down to two things: how much room you want through the hip and thigh, and how the leg falls to the ankle. Basics trousers come in six fits, and the outseam tells you most of the story.

Tapered Fit is fuller through the hip and thigh and narrows cleanly to the ankle — our largest range and the one to pick if you are unsure, with a 41" outseam. Drift Fit runs a straighter, easier line through the thigh with a 14" leg opening, also 41"; this is where our office trousers sit. Comfort Fit gives more room through the waist and seat and comes flat-front or pleated, with the longest outseam at 42". Skinny Fit is narrow from hip to ankle and finishes shortest at 39½", so it sits clean above the shoe. Relaxed Fit is a fuller leg with a softer drape, 42". Urban Fit sits between tapered and relaxed.

Most of the range is cotton stretch — a 2-3% lycra blend that moves with you — cut flat-front and casual. That is the chino end of the range: the pair you can wear five days a week. The office trousers are a polyester-viscose twill in navy, black, olive, grey, khaki and brown, chosen for how it drapes rather than how it stretches. There are cotton-linen twills too when the weather turns.

Every pair runs size 28 to 42. Inseams go from 34" at a 28 waist down to about 31" at 42, so most men will not need them shortened. For office wear, navy and grey take the most rotation, with beige and olive adding warmth to a brown-shoe wardrobe.
